Criminalmente infravalorado, quizá por haber aparecido tan tarde, es a mi parecer uno de los mejores discos del género. Escucha obligatoria para los fans del black metal noruego más clásico; lo tiene absolutamente todo.
Un punto y final perfecto que honra el legado que Mayhem comenzó con De mysteriis dom. Sathanas en Noruega hace tantos años. Favorite track: De Mørke Makters Dyp.

Choco Latte Now this is atmospheric black metal. The instrumentation is simple yet very complex. Really glad this Norwegian masterpiece got the remaster treatment too. Just buy it and hear it for yourself. Favorite track: Maanes Natt.

Rich Kinman I been reading the book "Black Metal: Evolution of the Cult." That book turned me on to this band. I like'em, they throw down!

Norwegian Black Metal remastered re-issue!

This album is just incredible. It in itself hundreds of different things and influences. It reminds me, among others, of three great, but also different bands: Burzum, Samael and Arcturus...

Why Burzum? The music is based on that grim guitar, which plays simple melodies in rather slow tempo. Here, its role is only to be a basement for melodies, just to establish the rhythm. The whole music creates a great, depressive atmosphere, even more sad than Burzum. The songs last for 5 to 7 minutes, so it is enough to present various melodies and arrangements.

Why Arcturus? Because of the role of keyboards. It is them, which creates melodies. They’re everywhere and they may have different functions - either build up the dark spheres, make the riffs sound better or to make melodies. You can even find here a keyboard solo!

Why Samael? Those piano plays, intervals and so on, which remind me of “Blood Ritual”. Another thing responsible for the atmosphere and the climate.

But Manes is much more than those bands. Manes has created its own style, full of arrangements taken from other, not metal genres. Here you can find many industrial elements, strange sounds and so on. The vocals are growled, but in a strange way. The whole music is so complicated, so strange, so different from anything else...

The best thing in Manes is that the band used it's originality and uncommonness in creating great, fascinating music. There are many bands which show something interesting, but they cannot create good songs. Manes can. Many great riffs, keyboard melodies, industrial intervals - it all makes this music original, but also great.

Mikolaj is a real multi-talent in bass as well as guitar as well as vocals and "Darkside" Maciej's drumming is a well-calibrated 100th-of-seconds-clockwork. PSA: if there was an album you heard a couple years ago and thought it was ok, listen to it again and you might love it. That's what happened to me with this album. I cannot fathom why it didn't stick with me back then. Same thing happened with Decoherence's Unitarity for that matter. Matten

US Black / Death Metal. Another brain child of the extremely talented artist Naas Alcameth. This is seriously good destroys anything in its way! The music goes from BM blasts all the way to a near funeral doom with a ton of atmosphere & back again. The entire thing is haunting as hell from the first to the last note. I think it is time for a new album! It has been six years already... :) Highly recommended!!! bmurator
